THE DOE 

The EMD G8 was a General Motors-built diesel-electric locomotive of which 382 were built between 1954 and 1965 for export and domestic use. They were created by Electro-Motive Division in the United States and General Motors Diesel Division in Canada for use in ten countries, being equipped to operate on several different track gauges. Our unit, from what we can tell from the research was built by General Motors Diesel in Montreal and bought by Canadian National from a canceled overseas order it and its sisters 7670-7674, the locomotives were placed into service (from what we can tell) the standard gauge side of the Newfoundland interchange, then units slowly made a forced pilgrimage across the CN system after being found redundant in most yards and services as bigger more modern units were introduced to the system, re-numbered 851 at this point our unit did not travel as far as its other sisters were sold to the International nickel company for use in Thompson, MB in 1963, this is when it received the yellow livery and the numbering 208-1 we see it in today.

The Locomotive was sold into the ownership of Texas industries Inc who pressed into service at Trinity lightweight, now Arcosa lightweight at their facility off Highway 93 just south of Boulder County Colorado, where it duties were moving hoppers for interchange with the Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision. The locomotive was later made redundant again in its life when the facility purchased a track-mobile.the facility placed the locomotive on a dead end spur at the facility right off of Highway 93 for all passers by to see, sitting as a monument to front range quarry and mining history

In November 2021 thanks to efforts of Jim Proud and Paul Arnett and Project Cure, Arcosa Aggregates gratuitously donated 2081 to our former incarnation "The Lakewood Metropolitan Railway" for preservation and restoration to be made operable, CSFN has made agreements to move and restore the locomotive at the Pueblo Railway museum. CSFN has helped in the creation of creating a 501c3 called Maxwell locomotive and Machine to maintain and restore the G8.
